Accessibility
I work with people of every ability. This site should work as well for someone using a screen reader, a keyboard or a magnifier as it does for anyone else.
What this site does
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. Press Tab to move, Enter or Space to activate, and the first Tab on any page offers a link to skip to the content.
- Images carry text descriptions. Decorative motion, like the drifting particles, is hidden from screen readers.
- The interactive pieces have text equivalents. The Odor Organ notation announces the materials and accords you choose, the Somatic Atlas wheel is also a plain list, and the globe on Scent Events is summarized as a list of places.
- The text hidden in the homepage portrait is available to screen readers in full.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, animation is kept to a minimum.
- Text meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast, and pages are checked with automated tools (axe) on desktop and mobile.
- The screen recordings on Field Notes are silent. Their captions describe what they show.
What it cannot do yet
Smell itself does not travel through a screen. Where a work depends on scent, the page describes the materials and what visitors experienced. If something here does not work for you, or you need a page in another format, email me and I will fix it or send it another way.
